MAISON PARFAITE YO1 REVIEW: LUXURY REDEFINED ON YORK’S HISTORIC MICKLEGATE

Posted by HN Magazine on 18th May 2020

With a small but impressive portfolio of beautifully restored rental properties peppered across the north, Maison Parfaite are rapidly becoming a name synonymous with luxury lifestyle. As the brand prepares to unveil new rentals in Robin Hoods Bay and central Leeds, we checked in to their York property for a weekend of chill.
Located slap bang in the middle of the historic Micklegate, YO1 couldn’t be any closer to the action if it tried. Whether you’re looking for fine-dining (Skosh), a traditional boozer (The Priory) or trendy craft ales (Brewdog), nothing is more than a stone’s throw away.
That’s not to say that those seeking a little peace, quiet and tranquillity won’t find what they’re looking for at YO1. Step inside and you instantly feel a million miles away from the bustling city centre.Spread across three floors, the many highlights of the 400-year old property includes five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a luxurious kitchen diner. Able to comfortably sleep 10, it’s designed to cater for large families or groups looking for something more than simply a place to bed down. This property is special.
Our stay began with a short but sweet visit from Lorna, who kindly dropped off some Prosecco and chocolates before showing us how to work the various gadgets and utilities throughout the property. The long corridor entrance gives way to a grand staircase, which also leads off down to a super-cool basement movie room complete with a Denon home movie system (perfect for keeping the kids entertained). Much like Maison Parfaite HG1, the attention to detail throughout is meticulous.
Vintage and ultra-modern styles blend seamlessly to create an appealing aesthetic that’s unique to YO1, whilst also tipping its cap to other properties in the Maison Parfaite portfolio. Think antique furniture and accessories, exposed beams, vintage artwork with a contemporary twist and high-end fixtures and fittings. The feature chandelier in the grand entrance makes for a memorable focal point
I suspect I’m not the first guest to cite the kitchen as my favourite part of YO1. Kitted out by Kesseler and complete with Neff appliances, kitchen island, a nifty wine fridge and a rustic French dinner table, it’s likely you’ll be spending a lot of time in here. The owners clearly know this judging by the Bose sound system that sits on the work surface. The drawers and cupboards are loaded with every kitchen utensil and accessory imaginable should you wish to host a dinner party. A utility room opposite the kitchen features a washer dryer, ironing facilities and a separate WC room with basin.
The lounge channels a number of influences, from the art deco fireplace to the retro furniture and brass cocktail trolley. A classic image of Roger Moore sipping a Martini with cigarette in hand from his Bond heyday earned a resounding thumbs up from my group. Entertainment comes in the form of a huge wall-mounted Smart TV equipped with HD Netflix.
Bedrooms are beyond cosy and come equipped with blackout blinds and plush oversized beds strewn with velvet throws. Getting into bed feels like you’ve just slipped into your very own cloud. As a light sleeper who awakes at the slightest discomfort or hint of light, this was all greatly appreciated.
The master bedroom is also something of a showstopper and is decked out with Farrow and Ball wallpaper and matt charcoal panelling. A beautiful en-suite shower room and walk-in wardrobe add to the decadence, whilst the full-length mirror and high-end furniture complete the look. All bedrooms come with fluffy towels, bathrobes, slippers and a hairdryer for added convenience.
The grand theme continues in the generously sized bathrooms, which boast peacock blue tiles, monochrome floors, vintage WC and basins and black and gold accessories. One features a striking freestanding copper slipper bath, whilst another is more of a wet room with a walk-in huge shower. Vegan and paraben free toiletries come from H2K of Harrogate.
We enjoyed a night on the town in some of the best local pubs and bars (the signature flat-iron steak at Cut and Craft comes highly recommended) before heading back to the property for an evening of cocktails and music. YO1 is the kind of holiday accommodation you’ll spend much of your time out in York itching to get back to.
Final Verdict
If you’re looking for a seriously stylish base from which to explore the wealth of culture offered by what is arguably Yorkshire’s most picturesque town, you won’t be left disappointed at YO1. An unforgettable property that commands repeat visits.
Prices at YO1 range from £750-900 per night on weekends and £325-675 on week nights.
Generous savings are available when you book multiple nights directly from Maison Parfaite.
