You may already have fond memories of Skeldale House from its starring role as the veterinary surgery in the original series of All Creatures Great and Small. And now you can relive those heart-warming scenes of James Herriot and Siegfried Farnon waltzing in, through the fabulous entrance doors, to be greeted by Mrs Hall and a hearty Yorkshire dinner, after another tension filled day of saving livestock, appeasing the locals and trying to stay on the road in that old Austin!
Featuring six gloriously appointed studio suites and one larger apartment, as well as ‘The Surgery’ where guests can take afternoon tea served by our private chefs, Skeldale House is THE place to stay whilst exploring all that the Yorkshire Dales has to offer.
You’ll be thrilled by the achingly luxurious décor that greets you as you step through the door at Skeldale House. There’s a distinct nod to the 1950’s era with the mid-century styling and ornate detailing. Juxtaposed perfectly with the ultra-slick modernist style kitchens, 58’’ 4K Ultra HD TV’s and sumptuously elegant, comfortable beds and roll top baths, you’ll be able to kick off your hiking boots and wallow in the luxury of it all! As with all Maison Parfaite Properties the attention to detail is second to none.
We have even installed a fully operational Austin 10 outside the front door – just so that you can take your Instagram pics and get the full All Creatures Great and Small experience from Maison Parfaite.

A wonderful base for exploring the Dales
Askrigg itself is a charming, picture-perfect Dales Village. The whole village was ‘Darrowby’ the fictional town in All Creatures Great and Small, so you’ll find much of it very familiar! One of the three pubs in the village, The Kings Arms, which sits opposite Skeldale House on the main street was The Drovers Arms, where James, Tristan and Siegfried finished many a traumatic shift off with a stiff drink!
From Askrigg you can embark on so many walks without the need to drive off to another start point, and the main street is blessed with not only three pubs but also The Bake Well Café and numerous shops.
The market town of Hawes is just a short drive or a hike away, and here you can sample the delights of The Creamery where you can try every variety of Wensleydale Cheese known to man!
Which one will you choose…
There are seven fabulously appointed apartments to choose from depending on your group size and requirements. One very large One-Bedroomed apartment, two large studios, and four smaller but spacious studios awhich are equally comfortable and luxurious.
Tricky Woo Suite – Skeldale House
Tricky Woo Suite
The Tricky Woo Suite is our grandest apartment, situated on the ground floor, with large lounge, full kitchen, and sensational bedroom with a feature freestanding roll top bath.
Entry is via a small hallway which opens into the kitchen:
Kitchen:
You will have a large kitchen with lots of cabinets, Neff appliances including dishwasher, oven, / microwave, induction hob and fridge / freezer. The kitchen is completed with beautiful gold sink and composite marble worktops. You will find a good assortment of utensils, pans, manual espresso machine and kettle. There is also a full sized dining table with 4 chairs. Please note that there is no washing machine.
Lounge:
A very large sitting room with high ceilings, original features, stripped wooden floor, two three seater settees, one of which is a sofa bed with thick mattress topper.
There is lots of space to socialise with your guests, and a wide variety of antique and contemporary furniture. A variety of lighting choices will allow you to set the mood for your stay.
Plus a large 58′ Panasonic 4k Smart TV with Netflix, and you can also stream your apps from your mobile devices.
Large Bedroom:
The grand bedroom features a gorgeous freestanding bath on a porcelain tiled platform, deep luxurious carpets, sensational gold velvet wing back headboard, fine linens, bath robes and large antique wardrobe.
Bathroom:
Compact bathroom includes small wash basin, walk in shower and WC. We provide fabulous organic, vegan and paraben free shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, and hand / body lotion by H2K of Harrogate
Farnon Suite at Skeldale House, Askrigg
The Herriot and Farnon Suites
The Herriot Suite and Farnon Suite are our largest studio apartments, and feature a sofa bed in the bedroom / living area which makes it best suited to 2 adults plus one or two children rather than additional adults.
You enter through a small hallway which has doors to the bathroom or lounge.
Lounge / Bedroom
This large room has a sofa bed which is probably best suited to additional children rather than adults as it is in the same room as the main bed. There is a gorgeous original fireplace (no longer in use), antique and contemporary furniture and a fabulously comfortable kingsize bed with illuminated timber feature wall behind.
A variety of lighting choices will allow you to set the mood for your stay. These suites offer the best views out over the town, church and village square with beautiful tall Georgian sash windows with wooden casements making them look very grand. There is a 58′ Panasonic 4k Smart TV with Netflix, plus you can also stream your apps from your mobile devices.
Kitchen:
A compact but thoughtfully designed kitchen includes a Neff oven / microwave, induction hob, slim dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment. There is a beautiful gold sink with composite marble worktop and lots of cooking utensils, pans manual espresso machine etc. There is a small table for two set in the large Georgian windows with lovely views overlooking the town, and beyond.
Bathroom:
The Bathroom is a good size with a roll top bath, with shower screen and shower above. There is a handy vanity unit with sink and drawers beneath plus WC. We also provide fabulous organic, vegan and paraben free shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, and hand / body lotion by H2K of Harrogate.
Drovers Suite – Skeldale House
The Darrowby and Drovers Suites
The Darrowby Suite and Drovers Suite are our medium sized studio apartments. They are perfect for 2 guests with lots of space to relax and enjoy your stay.
You enter through a small vestibule with doors to the lounge / bedroom or bathroom
Lounge / Bedroom:
This large room has a feeling of space as you enter, with deep pile carpets, antique and contemporary furniture and a fabulously comfortable kingsize bed with illuminated timber feature wall behind.
A variety of lighting choices will allow you to set the mood for your stay. There is also a table and two chairs to enjoy your meals with views out over the village and beyond. There is a 58′ Panasonic 4k Smart TV with Netflix, plus you can also stream your apps from your mobile devices.
Kitchen:
A thoughtfully designed galley style kitchen includes a Neff oven / microwave, induction hob, slim dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment. There is a beautiful gold sink with composite marble worktop and lots of cooking utensils, pans, manual espresso machine etc.

The Austin and Tristan Suites
The Austin Suite and Tristan Suite are our standard sized studio apartments. They are perfect for 2 guests to relax and enjoy your stay.
You enter through an inner hallway with doors to the lounge / bedroom or bathroom
Lounge / Bedroom:
This good sized room has a small dining table and chairs for two guests, antique and contemporary furniture and a fabulously comfortable kingsize bed with illuminated timber feature wall behind.
A variety of lighting choices will allow you to set the mood for your stay. There is a 58′ Panasonic 4k Smart TV with Netflix, plus you can also stream your apps from your mobile devices.
From your bed, you have wonderful views over the stone rooftops below, and beautiful countryside beyond.
